You guys! I have NEWS! That I am finally able to share!
The best kind of news: NEW BOOKS!
I sold a duology (that would be two books!) to Greenwillow. Here’s the description as it appeared in Publisher’s Marketplace:
Leah Cypess’s DEATHSWORN, a fantasy about a young sorceress with mysteriously fading powers who has been sent to tutor a sect of assassins in their underground stronghold; but while trying to solve the murders of the tutors who preceded her, she will discover a terrible secret about the assassins’ true goals, one that will challenge her deepest beliefs and force her to make a choice that could overthrow an empire, to Martha Mihalick at Greenwillow, for publication in Fall 2013 [update: Winter 2014], plus a sequel, by Bill Contardi at Brandt & Hochman (NA).
I know. It’s a mouthful. Apparently Publisher’s Marketplace descriptions are supposed to be one sentence long.
If you’ve got time for more than a sentence, here’s the description I used in my original pitch:
When Ileni lost her magic, she lost everything: her place in society, her purpose in life, and the man she had expected to spend her life with. So when the Elders sent her to be magic tutor to a secret sect of assassins, she went willingly, even though the last two tutors had died under mysterious circumstances.
But beneath the assassins’ caves, Ileni will discover a new place and a new purpose… and a new and dangerous love. She will struggle to keep her lost magic a secret while teaching it to her deadly students, and to find out what happened to the two tutors who preceded her. But what she discovers will change not only her future, but the future of her people, the assassins… and possibly the entire world.
I will share more details when I have them. I promise! In the meantime, I will just squeal and dance a lot.
